OH MY GOODNESS. The first words that come to my mind after I finished my first face mask using the Body Shop’s Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask. This thing is literally amazing. I had first received the suggestion from Tigritsa on my October Favourites post (you can view that here if you haven’t yet) since I was having problems with breakouts.
Now at first I was a little hesitant to try this because it is a little more expensive (roughly $30 with tax) BUT you do get a fairly large container and you don’t need very much to cover your face. The sales associate had said you get about 30 uses out of the container, which seems about right.
This mask is a vegan product and is also not tested on animals. It is made with bamboo charcoal from the Himalayan Foothills, green tea leaves from Japan and Community Trade Tea tree oil from Kenya. You might be wondering what that means but basically it is a superfood for your skin.
The charcoal will draw out all the dirt, oil and impurities from the skin, the tea leaves add antioxidants to the skin and the tea tree oil helps to get rid of the bacteria that causes pimples. And much like the Glam Glow masks you can see the charcoal working its magic in your pores.
To apply the mask you’re not going to want to use your fingers as you can transfer the bacteria to the pot and it will continue to grow within the whole product. I chose to apply with a flat foundation brush. If you don’t have a brush use a scoop to take some out of the pot then use your fingers to apply.
You are going to want to apply a fairly thin coat; just enough to coat the skin but thin enough for it to dry. Once it is applied you will feel a cool tingling sensation; it will dry to a light brown colour and your pores appear darker as it draws out the impurities.
After it is fully dried the next step is super important. Dampen your face and rub in a circular motion for the clay to exfoliate your skin. After it is fully exfoliated rinse off the rest of the mask with warm water. To finish splash your face with cold water to close up your pores.
I honestly cannot get over how amazing this product is. My skin feels so soft and smooth, with my pores looking so small and clean. This will definitely become a regular buy for me and you can expect to see it in my monthly favourites.
